SEO Basics

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is usually comprised of three major components:

  • Pay Per Click
  • Organic Search Engine Optimization and
  • "Traffic" Conversion.

Pay Per Click

Pay-Per-Click is involves a bidding process to ensure that your Internet marketing copy comes up for your selected search terms that relate to your business. Search results bases on Pay Per Click usually show up in a section of the search engine’s result page that notifies searchers that the results are "paid advertisements" or "sponsored links." When you use Pay-Per-Click, you have to pay the amount that you have bid for each visitor your website receives as the result of a click on the sponsored link.

Organic Search Engine Optimization

Organic search engine results are often considered to be more "natural" than Pay-Per-Click marketing. Organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of crafting your content to incorporate the appropriate keyword phrases that will guide visitors who search for those terms to your website. Search engines crawl your pages looking for the keywords that are relevant to your business; when your website pages are optimized for the right keyword phrases, the search engines connect searchers with a link to the websites that appear to have the most relevant content.

Traffic Conversion

"Conversion" in Internet terms refers to the ability to influence visitors to your website – also know as your website’s "traffic" - to contact you in a manner that is most likely to lead to a business relationship. Traffic conversion can be best achieved through sending the messages that are most important to your potential business partners through the content and design of your site and making it easy for visitors to the site to contact you once they are persuaded by your messages.
